Traction Ag is actively seeking a senior database Administrator with expertise in Postgres to join our growing Engineering team. You will manage, maintain, optimize, and secure our infrastructure's 27 Postgres database instances. You should be well-versed in the AWS ecosystem, including cost management. Finally, you should understand data warehousing well with experience working with and supporting products like Redshift. 

What You’ll Do

  • Database Optimization: Tune and optimize Postgres database performance using advanced techniques to support high transaction volume and complex query workloads.
  • Maintenance & Upgrades: Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including backups, restoration, and upgrades, ensuring no downtime for clients.
  • Security: Establish and maintain robust database security practices, including but not limited to role-based access controls, encryption, and vulnerability assessments.
  • Problem-Solving: Quickly address database-related incidents and provide long-term solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Capacity Planning: Analyze and predict future database capacity requirements and proactively plan for scalable solutions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and deliver infrastructure that supports enterprise applications.
  • Innovation: Continuously explore and integrate emerging database technologies and methodologies to enhance Traction Ag's data offerings.

How You’ll Qualify

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in database administration with at least 3 years of deep technical expertise in PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency and knowledge working with and in AWS and their varying services focused on securing and delivering data solutions.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale databases, particularly serving cloud-based SaaS products.
  • Expert understanding of SQL, query analysis, and performance tuning in Postgres.
  • Strong grasp of database principles, backup and recovery techniques, and replication strategies.
  • Expertise in PostgreSQL database management, tuning, backup, and recovery.
  • Competency in SQL and PL/pgSQL programming languages.
  • Proficiency in managing database security, replication, and scalability issues.
  • Experience with Linux and shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of modern database monitoring tools and techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment while maintaining high standards of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, capable of conveying complex information in a straightforward, understandable manner.
  • A keen interest in agriculture technology and a passion for leveraging data to solve real-world problems.
